NATO Trials Slipstream's Wideband Adaptive Radio Platform

Slipstream Design’s ASTRO platform has been put through its paces by NATO’s Defense Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) program that evaluates emerging tech.

As one of over 3,200 applicants and 28 chosen UK companies, Slipstream Design has completed a six-month stint in NATO’s Defense Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) program. The DIANA program, which identifies and supports emerging technologies with potential defense applications across Allied nations, evaluated Slipstream’s ASTRO wideband adaptive radar processor.

The ASTRO RF system-on-chip (SoC) helps create truly agile radio platforms with in-mission reconfigurability to advance the performance and flexibility of sensing and communication systems. The module is engineered for seamless integration with various radar architectures and optimized for rapid deployment, and it features synchronized converters for multi-channel, multi-module element-level beamforming. Thus, it's well-suited for advanced radar target generation, communication systems, and beyond.

Slipstream Design Commercial Director Sarah Gregory (see image above, left) said, “The future of defense will depend on how quickly innovative technologies move from development into operational use. That's the challenge we’ve spent the past six months tackling as part of the NATO DIANA program, and we’ve learned a huge amount from the experience. It has helped us achieve a significant shift in momentum as a business, become more aligned with the direction of travel in the defense sector, and create invaluable opportunities for both the company and our ASTRO platform.”

During its participation in DIANA, Slipstream had opportunities to test the ASTRO RF SoC in the field and receive real-time updates from end users, which Gregory said has accelerated product validation by years. She added, “The program has also helped us understand and navigate defense procurement channels more effectively and put ASTRO directly in front of end users.”
