Semitech, Occitaline, and Safesquare Launch Babi-LON Platform

Integrated Hardware/Software Solution Advances Power-Line Comms

July 16, 2025
Semitech Semiconductor, Occitaline, and Safesquare released the Babi-LON platform, which blends hardware and software for LonWorks power-line communication.

Semitech Semiconductor, Occitaline, and Safesquare recently unveiled the Babi-LON platform, an integrated hardware and software solution for LonWorks power-line communication (PLC) networks. Leveraging Semitech’s SM2400 multi-mode PLC transceiver, it supports the EIA-709.2 protocol for the PLC physical layer.

Babi-LON is intended to replace legacy solutions like the Echelon-developed PL3120 transceiver. It handles applications such as smart metering, industrial automation, and transportation markets.

Offering reliability, advanced modulation, and performance under demanding noise conditions, the system serves as an advanced backward-compatible replacement for legacy EIA-709.2 solutions in LonWorks-based systems. The Babi-LON platform is also a development environment. It simplifies migration with standard interfaces and established protocol stacks, replacing obsolete systems while maintaining existing networks.
