Ultra-Compact Particulate Sensor Empowers IoT, Smart Apps

June 25, 2025
The Bosch BMV080 ultra-compact particulate-matter sensor suits air-quality monitors, smart speakers, smart switches, smart thermostats, and smart air purifiers.

The BMV080 particulate-matter sensor from Bosch Sensortech measures 4.4 × 3.0 × 20 mm, including flex PCB, and has a fanless, non-intrusive design, addressing ultra-compact wearable or IoT devices such as air-quality monitors, smart speakers, switches, thermostats, and air purifiers.

The BMV080 particulate-matter sensor, claimed as the smallest particulate-matter (PM) air-quality sensor available, leverages VCSEL technology and advanced algorithms to measure the PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 mass concentration. The BMV080 can precisely measure PM mass concentration without a fan, ensuring that no fan-induced dust buildup occurs, making the sensor more reliable and reducing the risk of malfunction.

The Bosch Sensortec BMV080 Shuttle Board 3.1 is a PCB with the BMV080 sensor mounted on it. When paired with the Bosch application board 3.1, the BMV080 shuttle board can evaluate BMV080 output signals. The board offers easy access to the sensor pins via a simple socket that can be directly plugged into the application board.
