3D Image Processing Solution Empowers AI and Robotics
British start-up Cambrian Robotics has developed an AI-based solution to empower robotics applications in manufacturing, such as fast material handling. The system consists of a module for robot arms and a computing unit with pre-installed intelligent software and a camera module, using two uEye+ XCP cameras from IDS. The cameras image the area with the objects to be handled, and the software analyzes the scene and recognizes exactly where the objects are located. Further image processing is carried out with Cambrian Vision’s self-learning AI software for predicting the position of the parts as well as their pick points.
Based on simulated data, the AI learns independently and locates the removal points and parts extremely precisely, and the AI models for part recognition and communication with the robot are controlled by a GPU. With the Cambrian software package, pick points for new parts can be defined and the application configured in minutes. The associated camera module has two uEye XCP industrial cameras, which provide images of the object scene from different viewing angles, with the AI determining the position of the part to be gripped as accurately as possible. The system precisely combines image acquisition, AI models, and special image processing targets points and positions.
