SOSA-Aligned VPX Storage Boards Meet Gigabit Ethernet Needs

Feb. 19, 2020
These 64- and 32-TB storage boards handle the harsh environments often encountered by defense applications.

In launching its next-generation 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) storage boards, Annapolis Micro Systems addresses high-bandwidth and high-density data-storage requirements with two SOSA-aligned and VITA 65-compliant boards. One, the Wildstar 6SN0 6U OpenVPX Storage Board carries 64.0 TB of capacity in a single 1-in. 6U slot, and up to 10 GB/s read/write bandwidth. The other, the Wildstar 3SN0 3U OpenVPX Storage Board, offers 32.0 TB of capacity in a single 1-in. 3U slot, and up to 5 GB/s read/write bandwidth. Greater depth and bandwidth are readily attained via multiple storage boards.

The boards feature a powerful Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC, which allows for standalone operation, and for several interfaces that can operate simultaneously. Options include PCIe, Aurora, 40/100GbE, and user-defined protocols. The MPSoC also delivers multiple levels of hardware and software security.

High bandwidth is made possible by 25-Gb/s+ FPGA transceivers and high-density Multigig RT3 backplane interconnects, which deliver 100 Gb per fat pipe. VITA 66 optical I/O is available to the backplane or front panel.

The Wildstar storage boards are built for reliable deployment in harsh environments. They feature a rugged design and come in industrial temperature grades, with air, conduction, air-flow-through, or liquid cooling. The boards are hot-swappable and backplane connectors are rated for 10,000 insertion cycles.

The 6SN0 and 3SN0 Storage Boards are readily integrated into any SOSA-aligned VPX system or deployed within the company’s Wild100 EcoSystem. Uses include advanced high-performance computing (HPC); intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR); and multifunction electronic-warfare (EW) applications, including phased-array radar, cybersecurity network processing, DRFM, beamforming, sensor processing, wireless communication, and radar signal processing.

The 64-TB 6SN0 is now shipping, and orders are being accepted for the 32-TB 3SN0 with shipping starting in June 2020.
