Key Highlights

  • The MoU focuses on developing interoperable gateways for mission-critical communications using standards like P25 and DMR.
  • Airbus brings extensive experience in communication systems, while Omnitronics contributes expertise in RoIP and interoperability solutions.
  • The partnership aims to address regional diversity in communication standards, especially in the APAC region.
  • Leaders from both companies emphasize enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and flexibility through this collaboration.

Airbus Defence and Space, a division of Airbus SE, and Omnitronics have reached a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of interoperable gateways for mission-critical communications. The two firms will explore the integration of systems employing a combination of standards, such as P25 and Digital Mobile Radio (DMR), for reliably interoperable gateways in mission-critical environments.

Airbus brings its years of developing communications systems to Omnitronics’ experience in delivering radio-over-internet-protocol (RoIP) and communications interoperability solutions. Flexible interoperability is especially practical in regions such as the Asia-Pacific (APAC) area, where a diversity of communications standards is employed.

Regarding the teamwork, Alain Ruinet, Airbus Defence and Space’s Head of APAC for Public Safety and Security, noted, “This collaboration represents a strategic step in enhancing interoperability between different communication systems, a vital factor in mission-critical operations.”

Ruinet added, “By combining Airbus’ robust platforms with Omnitronics’ proven technology and expertise, we aim to deliver flexible and reliable solutions tailored to the evolving needs of our customers.”

To collaborate, John Jordan, Omnitronics’ CEO, observed (see image above), “Partnering with Airbus allows us to extend our capabilities and contribute to next-generation critical communication systems. Together, we will explore innovative ways to improve operational efficiency and safety across multiple sectors."
