Magnet-Free Contactless Integrated Inductive Switch is Stray-Field Immune
Melexis recently released the MLX92442 Induxis magnet-free and stray-field-immune contactless switch, a monolithic solution that accurately detects conductive targets. Its reduced component count enables small module designs, and supports improved safety and electrification in demanding automotive applications. The device’s technology actively senses any conductive target, such as a seat belt buckle or door latch, directly without a magnet or button actuator.
Since there are no moving mechanisms or additional parts, reliability and safety is enhanced as there are no parts attached to the given safety element vulnerable to being damaged or displaced. The inductive contactless operation is inherently more reliable than mechanical solutions, in addition to it being immune to magnetic influences.
The MLX92442 has a heavily integrated and miniaturized package, with the coils and interface built into the chip, removing the need for external components. Available in through-hole VK packaging or surface-mount SOIC packaging, the sensor’s supporting BOM is reduced from 3 to 2 elements (target + IC/coils) compared to existing solutions. Features include reverse supply voltage, undervoltage, and thermal protection, as well as an advanced integrated self-diagnostic function with a dedicated safe mode.
