RFMD/TriQuint Becomes “Qorvo”

Sept. 19, 2014
RFMD and TriQuint’s merged company will now be known as Qorvo, a name that reflects its mission of congruity and evolution.
While the merger between RF Micro Devices and TriQuint became news earlier this year (see “RFMD and TriQuint Merge to Become NewCo” on Microwaves & RF), only today did they finally unveil the new name: Qorvo (pronounced kor-vo). According to the company, “Qorvo” is a combination of “chorus” (a group of people working in unison), “core” (origin, center of technology), and “vo” (voyage or travel). The new name reflects its mission to rapidly translate R&D advances into large-scale productions.

Qorvo aims to offer agility, innovation, and precision for customers in the mobile, infrastructure, and defense markets. The companies’ combined portfolios will undoubtedly expand, providing RF solutions such as power amplifiers (PAs), antenna-control systems, and filters that help speed optical communications and other types of networks for both carriers and consumers. Offerings will also support the latest designs for products targeting the Internet of Things (IoT).

Actual approval of the merger, voted on by shareholders of both RFMD and TriQuint, occurred in September of 2014. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of the year. The new logo (see above) and stock trading symbol (QRVO) will be used immediately.
