To strengthen at-the-edge communications in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has awarded networking innovator Somewear Labs a contract to enhance links between operators and unmanned assets.
The contract is expected to aid the transition of the DIU’s Advanced Tactical Communications program to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC), leveraging Somewear Labs’ use of software-defined network communications and commercial technology, such as mobile communications, at the tactical edge. The firm is expected to automate data flow across multiple line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) networks to maintain continuous communications (see image above) even under challenging conditions.
As Somewear Labs transitions its capabilities to deploying at scale with the USMC, this partnership will demonstrate Somewear’s flexibility and reliability for critical data exchange across INDOPACOM’s diverse tactical environments.
James Kubic, chief executive officer (CEO) of Somewear Labs explained,“Our partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit highlights our shared commitment to enhancing the capabilities of our armed forces.” Concerning the contract, he added, “This contract not only reinforces our role in supporting the DoD’s network modernization efforts, but also marks a significant transition for Somewear and DIU.”
Somewear Labs, headquartered in San Francisco, Calif., provides scalable and secure networking solutions that make practical use of its software and commercial hardware.
