Lockheed Martin Opens R&D Facility in Orlando

Lockheed Martin has opened an additional research facility in Orlando, adding many high-level engineering jobs.

Lockheed Martin opened yet another research center in Florida earlier this month, in the form of its $50 million, 255,000-ft.2 Research & Development II facility in Orlando. The company has created more than 1,000 jobs in the area since 2017, creating opportunities for scientists and engineers in the pursuit of advanced technologies for the support of electronic-warfare (EW) and electronic-counter-measures (ECM) systems. The six-story research facility was built according to an aggressive schedule, constructed in one year’s time.

“The Research & Development II facility expands our robust Florida presence and fosters significant opportunities for collaboration and innovation among our employees,” said Lockheed Martin executive vice president Frank St. John “We will continue our strong partnerships with local and state governments, community partners, and area universities to grow our business, our workforce, and the critical capabilities we provide to customers worldwide.”

“I am proud to recognize Lockheed Martin’s continued investment in our community through the expansion of its new research and development building and the hundreds of new high-wage jobs the company is creating,” added Jerry L. Demings, mayor of Orange County. “Lockheed Martin and other businesses help drive innovation and opportunities across Orange County and worldwide.” Added Orlando’s mayor, Buddy Dyer: “This announcement demonstrates Lockheed Martin's continued commitment to our residents, their families and our Armed Forces by providing high-paying jobs and a state-of-the-art facility that will develop some of the most advanced technology in the industry right here in Orlando.”
