Nextreme Thermal SolutionsAnnounced its cooperation agreement with Lockheed Martin to develop new products using Nextreme's thin-film thermoelectric materials. As part of the agreement, Nextremea company focused on microscale thermal and power-management devices for the electronics fieldwill have its materials and services available for Lockheed Martin to use for its government and civil application solutions.

Accel-RFReceived the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract for Topic N08-164 with the Naval Surface Warfare Center located in Crane, IN. If the SBIR is completed, the AARTS system platform will acquire additional in-situ measurement capability and direct benefits to the compound-semiconductor manufacturer and user community, such as the Wide Band-Gap initiative partners and Tri-Services component teams.

RFMW Ltd.Announced its worldwide distribution agreement with Telemakus LLC, wherein all of Telemakus' USB-controlled RF test and measurement products will be marketed and sold by RFMW. These devices, which are suitable for XP and Vista-based PCs, are designed to construct a complex RF-function system. The device features a Flash memory complete with all necessary installation software as well as the calibration data used to compensate for frequency, dynamic range, and temperature.

How2Power.comThis new web site offers electrical engineers a faster way to address power-supply design challenges in their applications. The How2Power Design Guide search tool enables designers to find information on a wide range of power-electronics topics at different levels of expertise. For engineers who design RF and microwave products, the Design Guide's search-by-application function may aid the location of power-conversion and battery-management information as it relates to the design of handheld wireless products, base-station equipment, satellites, and other RF/microwave systems. Other Design Guide search categories enable engineers to address mission-critical aspects of their designs, such as power-supply reliability, electromagnetic interference, thermal management, and the power supply's ability to withstand extreme environmental conditions, which is particularly important in military and aerospace applications.

Agilent Technologies, Inc.Announced its partnership with Southeast University-China to enhance the performance of 3GPP-LTE mobile communication systems. Hoping to provide higher data rates and better services with higher spectrum and power efficiency for users, Agilent has offered grants to the university as well as its test instruments for research.

Iridium Satellite LLCTogether with Boeing, Iridium has made two advancements in the High Integrity Global Positioning System (GPS) used by the US Naval Research Laboratory. An Enhanced Narrowband (EN) software change has been completed for computers on Iridium satellites, thereby allowing second-generation GPS-aiding signals to be accessible on the whole Iridium constellation. Both Iridium and Boeing plan to finish the ENB software upgrade on time and within its budget. They will show a system-level demonstration later this year. The entire team includes Iridium, Boeing Phantom Works' Advanced Network and Space Systems, Rockwell Collins, Coherent Navigation, and academic experts.

Lockheed Martin Corp.Released its phase B proposal for increased navigational accuracy, integrity, and mission effects solutions for the GPS Advanced Control Segment (OCX). Lockheed Martin, which is a Northrop Grumman OCX team member, expects its proposal to start the final down-select phase of the program.

ITT Interconnect SolutionsHosted an annual fundraiser to send nearly 100 children with muscular dystrophy to summer camp. A global manufacturer and supplier of connectors, interconnects, and cable assemblies, ITT held the fundraiser's dinner and auction at the EDS show in Las Vegas this past May.

Ceitec S.A.Opened Brazil's first center for chip design and is planning to introduce 60 engineers to its team. The company, which specializes in application-specific-integrated-circuit (ASIC) development and production, hopes this move will facilitate its design of RFID, digital-media, and wirelesscommunication chips. The Brazilian government will invest almost $210 million USD in the new center, which is located in Rio Grande do Sul.

Exalt CommunicationsAnnounced that the Addison Fire Protection District in DuPage County, IL, has chosen the Exalt EX-4.9i all-indoor digital microwave radio systems to deliver dispatch calls and provide location information, traffic alerts, call specifics, mapping, and other data that is vital to its mission. DuPage County spans 337 square miles west of downtown Chicago and has nearly 1 million residents, making it the second-largest county in Illinois. It is also home to 29 fire protection districts.
