Pull-Type Latching Solenoid Suits a Variety of Applications
The S-18-100T series of latching pull-type solenoids from Magnetic Sensor Systems measure 1.00 x 0.84 x 1.73 in., with a 0.313-in.-thick plunger with a stroke of up to 0.75 in. It has a 0.30-in.-deep clevis with a cross-drilled 0.096-in.-diameter hole for a 3/32 roll pin, with two 8-32 (or optional M4) threaded mounting holes on the underside for easy integration. Energized by a short pulse of voltage, once the plunger is seated, no further power is required to keep it in place, with internal permanent magnets providing a latching force for the plunger. The latching action can be released by a short pulse of voltage in the opposite polarity.
The holding force of an application determines whether a flat or conical face is needed, and the pull force required dictates the AWG number and ampere turns. Nominal latched holding force is five pounds with a flat face plunger and two pounds with a conical face plunger, with the conical face providing a higher pull force at a long stroke while its holding force is less compared to a flat-face plunger. The plunger can be supplied with an optional integral E-ring and spring to help move the plunger back once the latching action is released.
