Electric Boat Funded to Speed Submarine Production
As part of a modification to existing business, Electric Boat has been awarded a $987 million contract by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for efforts supporting submarine production. The contract modification involves additional Component Development, Class Lead Yard Support (CLYS), and Submarine Industrial Base (SIB) supplier development enhancements. It will be performed in Groton, Conn. (70%); Newport News, Va. (15%); and Quonset Point, R.I. (15%), and is expected to be completed by 2031.
Electric Boat, which designs, builds, repairs, and modernizes nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy (see image above), is a business unit of General Dynamics Corp..
According to Mark Rayha, president of General Dynamics Electric Boat, “This contract modification funds important shipyard and supply chain work essential to achieving the necessary growth in output and supports our efforts to accelerate submarine delivery.”
Rayha added, “The ongoing support for the shipyards and our supply base from the Navy, Congress, and the administration is appreciated and necessary for us to meet the Navy’s current and future demand for submarines.”
