Raytheon Contracted for Sweden’s Patriot System

Jan. 9, 2019
Sweden is adding the Patriot system to its airborne military defense systems as part of a $692.9 million U.S. Army production contract.

Raytheon Co. has won a U.S. Army contract for $692.9 million to produce Sweden’s Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense System. The contract includes spare parts, support, and training, and calls for Raytheon to deliver an undisclosed quantity of Patriot fire units and GEM-T interceptor missiles.

The Patriot system is a missile defense system consisting of radars, command-and-control technology, and interceptors, which combine to detect, identify, and destroy tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, drones, advanced aircraft, and other airborne threats. This addition to Sweden’s military systems is expected to greatly strengthen and nation’s defense against airborne threats. Sweden will be one of 15 other nations, including the U.S., to depend on the Patriot system.

“Sweden's Patriot procurement will provide joint training opportunities for the Swedish and U.S. armed forces, and enhance military interoperability,” said Tom Laliberty, vice president of Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems business. “Patriot is continually modernized, providing Sweden the world’s most advanced and capable air and missile defense system.”
