Scopes Extend Bandwidths to 63 GHz

This series of oscilloscopes offers enough measurement bandwidth and low noise floors to capture second and third harmonics from millimeter-wave signals.
The Infiniium Z-Series of oscilloscopes provide real-time measurement bandwidths from 20 to 63 GHz.

Oscilloscopes are among the most versatile of test instruments, capturing fast signal responses and presenting time-domain insights into their characteristics. The latest Infiniium Z-Series of oscilloscopes extend this measurement versatility to 63 GHz, with as many as 40 simultaneous channels. Models are available with real-time bandwidths from 20 to 63 GHz (with lower-frequency models upgradable to 63 GHz). These advanced instruments leverage the firm’s capabilities in indium-phosphide (InP) semiconductor technology to reach these high frequencies and bandwidths.

Models at the extremes of the Infiniium Z-Series family (see photo) include the highest-frequency model DSAZ634A scope with real-time bandwidth of 63 GHz for two-channel operation and 33 GHz for four-channel measurements, and the lowest-frequency model DSAZ204A with two and four-channel real-time bandwidth of 20 GHz. The high-frequency instrument features maximum two-channel sampling rate of 160 GSamples/sec and maximum four-channel sampling rate of 80 GSamples/sec, while the DSAZ204A achieves maximum two and four-channel sampling rate of 870 GSamples/sec. All of these models are available with minimum memory depth of 100 Mpoints and maximum memory depth to 2 Gpoints. The instruments boast low jitter and noise measurement floors at 75 fs, with rise times to 5 ps and symbol rate analysis to 120 Gbaud.

The oscilloscopes feature an advanced user interface for ease of use, including a capacitive touchscreen and controls based on the use of the touchscreen. The instruments can be specified with an optional synchronization port to enable as many as 40 simultaneous measurement channels for special applications. The highest-speed oscilloscopes in the line provide sufficient bandwidth to capture third harmonics to 40 Gbytes/sec on digital signals.

For special assignments, such as 40 measurement channels, the company’s Model N8822A software can help simplify and automate matters. The oscilloscopes can also be operated with the firm’s Model N2807A PrecisionProbe software for measurements that can include corrections for coaxial-cable characteristics (such as loss and group delay) in a test setup. In addition, software is available for analysis of captured test data on an external PC. The scopes are equipped with ISB 3.0 ports for high-speed data exchanges. P&A: $201,000 and up.
