The EWV0800YF is a series of voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) that sport dual outputs with total frequency coverage of 7.3 to 8.9 GHz and 3.65 to 4.45 GHz. Based on 2-m indium-gallium-phosphide (InGaP)/gallium-arsenide (GaAs) heterojunction-bipolar-transistor (HBT) technology, the monolithic-microwave-integrated-circuit (MMIC) oscillators feature on-board, divide-by-two prescalers to create a second tuned output range at one-half the frequency of the fundamental outputs. For example, the model EWV0801YF tunes with a fundamental- frequency range from 7.3 to 8.3 GHz with +12 dBm typical output power. It covers a divided frequency range of 3.65 to 4.15 GHz with +6 dBm typical output power. The VCO tunes with control voltages of 2 to 13 V and supply current of typically 275 mA. It achieves phase noise of -112 dBc/Hz offset 100 kHz from the carrier in either band with subharmonic levels of typically -40 dBc and second-harmonic levels of typically -30 dBc. Pushing is typically 5 MHz/V for a tuning voltage of 5 V while pulling into a 2.0:1 VSWR load is typically 5 MHz peak to peak. From -40 to +85C, the frequency drift with temperature is typically only 0.75 MHz/C. Typically, the device exhibits output return loss of 5 dB. The higherfrequency model EWV0802YF tunes across a fundamental-frequency range of 7.8 to 8.9 GHz with +12 dBm typical output power and a divided-by-two output-frequency range of 3.90 to 4.45 GHz with +6 dBm typical output power. It matches the phase-noise performance of the lower-frequency modelat -112 dBc/Hz offset 100 kHz from the carrier in either bandwith typical subharmonics of -40 dBc and second harmonics of -10 dBc. This VCO also matches the performance of the EWV0801YF in terms of pushing, pulling, frequency drift with temperature, and output return loss. Both oscillators are supplied in low-loss 32-lead QFN packages measuring 5 x 5 mm.
