Compact Integrated Sensor Module Targets Smart Air-Quality Monitoring

Renesas Electronics introduced the RRH62000 all-in-one sensor module, designed for indoor air-quality monitoring. The first multi-sensor air-quality module from Renesas, it integrates multiple sensor parameters in a compact design and accurately detects different particle sizes, volatile organic compounds, and gases harmful to human health. The module offers an intelligent sensor management solution with robust firmware that also enables products to comply with various air-quality standards around the world.

Measuring 46.6 x 34.8 x 12 mm, the RRH62000 leverages Renesas’s RA Family MCU to manage the seven sensor signals from the laser-based PM1/ 2.5/10 sensor, the ZMOD4410 gas sensor, and the HS4003 humidity and temperature sensor. Together they can detect particulate matter, total volatile organic compounds, estimated CO₂, temperature, and humidity. It can monitor concentrations of particles with diameters of 0.3 to 10 µm as well as absolute or relative total volatile organic compound measurements in different power-mode settings.

An Army veteran, Alix Paultre was a signals intelligence soldier on the East/West German border in the early ‘80s, and eventually wound up helping launch and run a publication on consumer electronics for the U.S. military stationed in Europe. Alix first began in this industry in 1998 at Electronic Products magazine, and since then has worked for a variety of publications, most recently as Editor-in-Chief of Power Systems Design.
