Dual-Channel Frequency Counter/Analyzer Serves Cost-Sensitive Applications

Pendulum Instruments' CNT-102 dual-channel frequency analyzer is presented as the first dual-channel instrument that can support parallel and independent time/frequency measurements in a benchtop instrument. Features include simultaneous and gap-free frequency, period, time interval error, pulse width, rise/fall time, slew rate, totalize, and voltage measurements. The CNT-102 has a standard frequency range of up to 400 MHz, with an optional RF input that extends bandwidth up to 24 GHz.

The multichannel design enables the performance of complex test applications such as parallel frequency measurements of two different test objects, or the comparison of pulse parameters between two parallel test points, without having to swap over test leads. The design also enables critical measurements that were previously not possible using traditional single-channel universal frequency counters.

Additional features include 14-ps time resolution, up to 13-digit/s frequency resolution, and 1 million measurements/s, with a large, color touchscreen and an intuitive graphical user interface. In addition to providing data like modulation/trend and value distribution graphs, it can perform advanced analysis with smoothing of data and zooming functions as well as cursor read-outs of individual samples.

An Army veteran, Alix Paultre was a signals intelligence soldier on the East/West German border in the early ‘80s, and eventually wound up helping launch and run a publication on consumer electronics for the U.S. military stationed in Europe.
