Comtech EF Data Helps Upgrade Satcom System

Nov. 1, 2020
The satellite modems will upgrade and expand a satellite communications (satcom) network that relied on long-running CDM-625 satellite modems.

Comtech EF Data Corp., the Tempe, AZ-based subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., has received a $1.5 million order from a Tier 1 defense contractor for its Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC) satellite modems. The order takes place during the first quarter of Comtech’s fiscal 2021. The satellite modems will upgrade and expand a satellite communications (satcom) network that relied on long-running CDM-625 satellite modems from Comtech EF Data. As part of the upgrade, the customer selected model CDM-625A satellite modems with their wide range of data interfaces and special features, including DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression, Carrier-in-Carrier Automatic Power Control, four-port 10/100Base-T managed Ethernet switching with virtual-local-area-network (VLAN) capability, and embedded priority-based Quality of Service (QoS) functionality.

“The CDM-625A Advanced Satellite Modem builds on our legacy of providing the most efficient and reliable satellite modems,” commented Fred Kornberg, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. “Migrating to the latest generation modem will enable additional bandwidth efficiencies and link optimization to be realized by this customer.”

The Comtech EF Data Corp. satellite ground station equipment (see figure) supports mission-critical defense and government applications requiring high satcom bandwidth efficiency and optimum link performance. It is typically deployed to increase throughput and improve the quality of satellite links under all operating conditions.
