USSOCOM Procures Cubic’s Inflatable Satcom Terminals

U.S. Special Operations Command has ordered more GATR inflatable satcom terminals from Cubic Corp. for its special operations forces.

Cubic Corp.’s Cubic Mission Solutions division, formerly GATR Technologies, has been awarded a follow-on, single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract from the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for ground antenna transmit and receive (GATR) inflatable satellite-communications (satcom) terminals and baseband communications equipment. The contract, which has a ceiling of $172 million, supports the requirements of special operations forces (SOF) for flexible and mobile satcom services.

“Cubic is an established and trusted partner for USSOCOM, providing special operations forces with leading-edge capabilities that support our customer’s expeditionary and tactical needs,” said Mike Twyman, president of Cubic Missions Solutions. “We are proud to continue our partnership with USSOCOM; this strategic opportunity allows us to continue providing reliable solutions for SOF missions in remote and forward deployed situations.”  The contract covers the procurement of Cubic’s 1.2- and 2.4-m GATR inflatable satcom terminals in five one-year ordering periods.

The GATR terminals (see the figure) are approximately 50% the weight and volume of traditional satcom ground antennas and terminals. The GATR terminals are easily deployable and enable rapid movement of data and sharing of information. They are designed for advanced Internet-protocol (IP)-enabled voice and data communications at different satcom frequencies, including at Ku, C, X, and Ka bands.
