IoT a Strong Part of Global Aerospace and Defense Market

Jan. 31, 2018
The IoT is a strong and growing part of global aerospace and defense spending.

Internet of Things (IoT) electronic products are generally associated with consumer or commercial markets but, as results of a market study reveals, IoT also plays a healthy role in global aerospace and defense markets. According to the 133-page report, “Internet of Things (IoT) in Aerospace & Defence Market Forecast 2017-2027,” from Vg-Defence, the global IoT market for aerospace and defense will see $22.6 billion in spending in 2017.

The report breaks down the sales of IoT devices by such parameters as component type, deployment (such as on premises or “cloud”), by application, and by connectivity (such as via cellular communications, satcom, or Wi-Fi connections).

For aerospace and defense use, IoT devices connect aircraft, systems, and people to the internet to help improve production processes, management efforts, and help enhance productivity. The report projects IoT sales in aerospace and defense for the next 10 years, and covers some of the world’s leading defense contractors in its various tables and graphs, including BAE Systems, Boeing Co., General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman Corp., and Raytheon Co.
