Discrete Mixers Convert Broad Bands

A line of mixers handles frequency translation through 33 GHz.

Discrete frequency mixers still offer excellent signal translation solutions for receivers and transmitters and one of the long-term suppliers of such mixers, MACOM Technology Solutions, Inc. will be on hand at the 2014 IMS to show examples of some of its latest components. These compact mixers are available in a variety of surface-mount, plastic packages to fit the tightest circuit designs. According to Tom Galluccio, the firm's product manager, “These new additions to MACOM’s growing portfolio of mixers are ideally suited for wideband applications for which performance, ease of use and cost effectiveness are key considerations.”

As an example, model MAMX-011021 has an RF range of 5 to 33 GHz with an intermediate-frequency (IF) range of DC to 5 GHz and conversion loss of about 9 dB. The mixer has an input third-order-intercept (IIP3) of +22 dBm to minimize distortion. Also on display, the new model MAMX-011022  image-reject mixer has an RF range of 5 to 28 GHz with an intermediate-frequency (IF) range of DC to 5 GHz and conversion loss of about 12 dB. For low-noise applications, the model MAMX-011023 low-noise active mixer maintains noise at typically 7 dB. It has an RF range of 4 to 23 GHz and IF range of DC to 8 GHz, with about 7-dB conversion loss when running on 15 mA at +3 VDC. These are just samples of the mixers and other components on display at Booth No. 915.
