Models ADF4151 and ADF4196 are phase-lock-loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer integrated circuits (ICs) that support low-noise signal-generation applications through 6 GHz. The model ADF4151 RFIC with fractional-N and integer-N circuitry works with an external voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), loop filter, and external reference oscillator. It operates from power supplies of +3.0 to +3.6 VDC and provides RF bandwidth to 3.5 GHz. It features a programmable dual-modulus prescaler of 4/5 or 8/9 division ratios, three-wire interface, and 1.8-V logic compatibility, and is supplied in a 5 x 5 mm package. Model ADF4196, which offers frequency coverage to 6 GHz, can frequency hop across the GSM cellular band in 5 microseconds or less. The synthesizers are suitable for applications in communications infrastructure base-stations, pulse and Doppler radars, test and instrumentation equipment, and microwave point-to-point systems.
