Designed for an output frequency of 12.8 GHz, model PIA-12D8G-CD-1 is a phase-locked dielectric-resonator oscillator (DRO) from PMI that includes an internal 100-MHz reference oscillator to help it achieve ±3 MHz frequency stability. The oscillator delivers at least +13-dBm output power, with harmonic levels controlled to -25 dBc or less. Spurious output levels are limited to -80 dBc or less. It features single-sideband (SSB) phase noise of -65 dBc/Hz offset 10 Hz from the carrier, -108 dBc/Hz offset 1 kHz from the carrier, -115 dBc/Hz offset 10 kHz from the carrier, and -140 dBc/Hz offset 1 MHz from the carrier.
The source draws 300 mA current from a +15-VDC supply. It even includes a built-in alarm system that apprises operators of phase-locked conditions by means of a transistor-transistor-logic (TTL) signal. The compact DRO measures just 2.25 x 2.25 x 0.62 in. with SMA female coaxial connectors and is designed for operating temperatures from -25 to +70°C. It meets MIL-STD-202F requirements for humidity, shock, altitude, and temperature cycling.
