Broadband receiver applications requiring high sensitivity can benefit from a new monolithic-microwave-integrated-circuit (MMIC) low-noise amplifier (LNA) from Custom MMIC. Available as models CMD157 and CMD157P3 in chip and packaged forms, respectively, the LNA can be used for applications from 6 to 18 GHz. It features a low noise figure of 1.5 dB across the 12-GHz bandwidth with flat gain of 25 dB. In addition, it has an output 1-dB compression point of +10 dBm whether in chip or packaged form. Both versions are matched to 50 Ω, eliminating the need for external DC blocking capacitors and input and output port matching. The packaged device is supplied in a RoHS-compliant 3 x 3 mm plastic surface-mount package. Both LNAs are designed for simple bias of 52 mA at a single positive supply of +3 VDC.
