Integrated Sixth-Gen Secure Comms Solutions to Address Advanced Naval Systems

Oct. 19, 2022
In today’s asymmetrical battle spaces, information superiority and situational awareness are key to operational superiority. Properly integrating the next generation of electronic solutions has an important role in achieving that goal.

What you’ll learn:

  • The importance of information superiority and situational awareness.
  • A strategic cooperation to bring integrated sixth-generation solutions to navies.

Modern naval missions usually focus on joint and multinational operations, with success depending on achieving information superiority and situational awareness. It’s critical for an advanced military force to have cutting-edge communications, electronic support measures, and security solutions to address every aspect of naval platforms—above the surface, below the water, in the air, or shore-based.

For any system integrator and/or manufacturer of core components, it’s vital that they deliver turnkey and trusted solutions with higher reliability, performance, and efficiency than what the adversary can bring to bear. This demands the creation of optimized, customized systems based on specific customer requirements and concept of operations (ConOps). Working together to serve this endeavor, Rohde & Schwarz and Airbus Defense and Security expanded their strategic cooperation to bring integrated sixth-generation solutions to allied navies.

With the intent to develop and create the next-gen modernized battlefield networks for the future, the collaborative effort will accelerate the deployment of innovative tech. Examples include an expanded set of broad and fast communications, which is at the core of the effort. This will allow the navy to instantaneously share the significantly increasing, collected load of intelligence data from within these networks.

“Sixth-generation defense technologies will revolutionize military, secure communications, and cooperative intelligence. This will enable the navy to better exploit the huge amount of information collected and distributed,” explained Hansjörg Herrbold, Vice President Secure Communications, Rohde & Schwarz. “Based on the innovation strength and the numerous mission-proven technology, Airbus and Rohde & Schwarz are at the forefront to develop tech for information dominance in the naval environment.”

“Over the last few years, we have worked extremely well with Rohde & Schwarz, integrating their latest communications technology into the naval operative network,” continued Thierry Becker, Vice President Secure Communications EMEA, Airbus Defense and Space. “Today’s forces require the strategic edge by ease-of-use equipment, which is critical for information and decision dominance. For this, we look forward to continuing our cooperation with Rohde & Schwarz, tackling the next generation together.”
