WiMAX is inspiring new designs across the industry. A 10-W, double-pole, four-throw (DP4T), gallium-arsenide (GaAs), monolithic-microwave-integrated-circuit (MMIC) switch has now been spawned to help designers integrate WiMAX into customer premise equipment (CPE). The UPG2181T5R operates to 3.8 GHz with control voltage of +3.0/0 V. Insertion loss is 0.8 dB at 2.3 to 2.7 GHz and 1.0 dB at 3.3 to 8.0 GHz. The switch reaches 1-dB compression at +40 dBm power. It hits receive 1-dB compression at +35 dBm. Switching speed is 250 ns. The UPG2181T5R can switch up to four antennas between transmit and receive. An on-board CMOS decoder permits switching between eight transmit and receive states using only three control inputs. In addition, the UPG2181T5R provides internal 50-W non-reflective port termination. When the switch is busy in the receive mode, the idle transmit ports are automatically connected to a 50-W load.
