Handheld Radio Tester Tracks 500 kHz To 1.6 GHz

To aid the installation, verification, and service of P25/NXDN and Long Term Evolution (LTE) public-safety, utility, and private mobile communications systems, the S412E LMR Master handheld analyzer covers 500 kHz to 1.6 GHz. It combines P25/NXDN radio-test-set functionality with a cable and antenna analyzer, two-port network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, interference analyzer, and power meter. It also boasts LTE transmitter measurement capability. Covering the 500-kHz-to-1.6-GHz frequency range, the S412E can conduct radio transmitter and receiver measurements with antenna, cable, transmission, and interference analysis. It includes a CW/P25/NXDN signal generator with internally adjustable power from 0 to -120 dBm.

The S412E LMR Master's spectrum analyzer boasts a displayed average noise level (DANL) of -152 dBm, allowing it to locate low-level signals that can interfere with LMR systems. In addition, low -100 dBc/Hz phase noise allows measurement of P25/NXDN and NXDN emission masks. An option allows spectrum-analyzer coverage to be extended to 6 GHz. For its part, the 2-MHz-to-1.6-GHz cable and antenna analyzer (extendable to 6 GHz) can conduct FDR-based return loss and voltage-standing-wave-ratio (VSWR) measurements to accurately characterize antenna systems. Distance-to-fault (DTF) measurements easily determine poor connections, contamination, damaged cables, and water penetration. With dynamic range above 100 dB, users can view and adjust the RF performance of critical RF devices. When combined with the 850-s/ point sweep speed, that dynamic range allows for accurate filter transmission measurements.

A coverage-mapping feature in the S412E allows up to eight hours of BER and RSSI testing associated with a GPS location. It can measure BER down to ?115 dBm signal levels to help ensure successful signal transmissioneven with local interference or multipath. FDD LTE measurement options include transmitter RF measurements to verify correct output power and low outof- channel emissions. The battery-operated S412E LMR Master has a delivery of 4 to 6 weeks ARO.

Chip Brings GPS-Receiver PCB Area Below 7 x 8 mm

With Global Positioning System (GPS) technology being integrated into an ever-growing array of handheld devices, a 5.0-x-6.0-x- 1.1-mm chip promises to satisfy many mass-market GPS applications. The single-chip UBX-G6010-NT standalone GPS system can fi t on a printed-circuit board (PCB) smaller than a thumbtack. The chip, which does not require an external host, provides sensitivity to -162 or -148 dBm during coldstart. The UBX-G6010-NT consumes just 67 mW at 1.8 V (continuous) and 20 mW at 1.8 V in power-save mode. Because it integrates most of the associated passive components, the total system bill of materials (BOM) requires as few as five external components including a surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) filter and temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO). The UBX-G6010-NT integrates a low-dropout (LDO) regulator in addition to a low-noise amplifier (LNA). External memory is not needed. Thanks to a sophisticated RF architecture and interference suppression, the chip promises to ensure maximum performance even in GPS-hostile environments. It operates from -40 to +85C.
