Boasting two awards apiece, Huawei Technologies and Gemalto were big winners at the LTE Awards 2011. As part of the Amsterdam-hosted LTE World Summit 2011, the awards presentation took place May 17 in the Grand Ballroom at De Duif Amsterdam.

Huawei won in the categories of Significant Progress for a Commercial Launch of LTE by a Vendor and Best LTE Network Elements. Gemalto, a provider of digital security solutions, received the award for Best Enabling Technology. In addition, the prize for Best Contribution to LTE standards (individual only) was given to Gemalto's Patrice Beaudou. The judging panel was comprised of representatives from BT Wholesale, Telefonica, AT&T, France Telecom, Three, E-Plus Mobilfunk, Cosmote, and Telecom Italia.

Along with the aforementioned winners, the following companies were also honored: Best Contribution to R&D for LTEEricsson; Significant Progress for a Commercial Launch of LTE by an OperatorTeliasonera; Best Network/Device Testing Product for LTEAlcatel-Lucent; Best Core Network ProductNokia Siemens Networks; Best Chipset/ Processor ProductQualcomm CDMA Technologies; and Best LTE Device/ HandsetSamsung Electronics.
