SANTA CLARA, CA AND MALAGA, SPAINAgilent Technologies (www.agilent.com) and ETS-Lindgren (www.ets-lindgren.com) have been selected by AT4 wireless labs (www.at4wireless.com) to provide WiMAX test equipment for use in radiated performance testing (RPT). As the WiMAX Forum Lead Lab and first worldwide WiMAX Forum-designated Certification Laboratory, AT4 wireless is developing RPT capability in its US-based branch by adding the ETS-Lindgren RPT system. This test system includes the ETS AMS-8500 antenna measurement system, the Agilent EXA signal analyzer, and Agilent's E6651A Mobile WiMAX test set.

The RPT solution will augment AT4's other test systems, including its own wireless Mobile WiMAX test set. This solution can perform both 2D (polar) and 3D (spherical) antenna pattern measurement on transmit power and receiver sensitivity for notebooks, PCMCIA cards, and other terminals employing WiMAX technology. It therefore addresses the needs of WiMAX equipment manufacturers, which must pass RPT requirements to attain WiMAX Forum certification. LOWELL, MAM/A-COM (www.macom.com) has been awarded a $7.6 million contract by the US Army to deploy its Project 25IP (P25 to the power of IP) trunked radio communications system at Fort Hood, TX. Fort Hood is the home base of the US Army's 1st Cavalry Division and the 4th Infantry Division. The new trunked system will be a four-site, 49-channel system on the 380-to-400-MHz band. It will support more than 2100 users over the 395 square miles occupied by the US Army facility.

The P25IP communications system at Fort Hood features Information Assurance and over-the-air-programming (OTAP) capabilities for secure communications and easy configuration. The system also boasts a high-availability network-switching server (HA-NSS) to ensure that voice and data messages are delivered only to the radio sites that are necessary to reach the destined mobile subscribers. The M/A-COM digital P25IP radio communication system vows to combine the benefits of an IP-based, network-centric solution with the standard common air interface of P25. Additionally, P25IP provides interoperable communications via NetworkFirst, the M/A-COM network solution that interconnects existing radio communications systems for interoperability based on routine and emergency needs.
