Amplifier supplier dB Control has been tabbed by a major defense contractor to supply coupled-cavity traveling-wave-tube amplifiers (TWTAs) for radar applications. The initial award, with a value of $1.1 million, is for C-band TWTAs in the 70-to-100-kW output-power range. The contract has the potential to reach another $4 to $5 million in sales over the next year. The amplifiers were selected for a combination of high output power, low phase noise, and low spurious noise. Earlier this year, the company announced that it had signed three contracts worth nearly $8 million to provide TWTAs and microwave power modules (MPMs) to major United States defense contractors supplying US Army, Navy, and Air Force requirements.
