Model SEM02012 is a failsafe singlepole, double-throw (SPDT) switch from Narda Microwave-East for applications from DC to 18 GHz. It measures just 1.34 x 1.5 x 0.5 in. It exhibits maximum insertion loss of 0.5 dB with minimum isolation of 60 dB. The VSWR is less than 1.50:1 across the full frequency range. The switch is supplied with female SMA connectors and is powered by 275 mA at +12 VDC.

Switching Systems Route 1 To 18 GHz
Model 4601 is a bidirectional electromechanical switching system for applications from 1 to 18 GHz. It can be specified in nonblocking switch configurations of 4 x 4, 5 x 5, 6 x 6, 7 x 7, or 8 x 8, allowing any input to be connected to any output. All models are equipped with rear-panel RS-232 connections for remote control by means of an external computer, with options for ENET and GPIB interfaces. The systems accept input power to +20 dBm with a 1-dB compression point of +5 dBm, second-order intercept of +20 dBm, and third-order intercept of +10 dBm. The maximum noise figure is 11 dB. The company also offers the model 4701 system in switching configurations from 9 x 9 to 12 x 12.

Model BBM5K8CGM is a power amplifier that provides at least 35 W saturated output power from 2500 to 6000 MHz with typically 20 W output power at 1-dB compression. The small-signal gain over that range is typically 48 dB. It includes a 25-dB gain-adjustment range. The typical third-order intercept point is +50 dBm. At the maximum gain setting, the maximum noise figure is 10 dB. The amplifier consumes 7.5 A current from a +28-VDC supply. YIG Oscillators Tune 2 To 18 GHz
A line of GaAs FET-powered YIG-tuned oscillators covers various portions of the total 2-to-18-GHz range with low phase noise. They are available in two versions, with either 10 or 30 mW output power, in cube or cylindrical housing. An example of the family is model YOM2321, which tunes from 2 to 12 GHz with +13 dBm output power and 10-ms tuning speed. It tunes by means of 0 to 10 V control and an integrated 12-b analogtodigital converter (ADC). Typical tuning sensitivity is 18 MHz/mA. The linearity is typically better than 12.5 MHz across the tuning range, with second harmonics of -12 dBc and spurious content of -60 dBc.

XMC Card Captures Video For UGVs
Model ICS-8580 provides powerful video signal capture in an XMC card format. Ideal for use in unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and other demanding military and aerospace requirements, the design weighs just 3.5 oz. and consumes typically 10 to 15 W power. It supports a number of different video formats with either two channels of high-definition video or four channels of standard-definition video. The ICS-8580 uses the industry-standard H.264 video compression codec, but is software reconfigurable to enable it to support alternatives such as JPEG2000. The ICS-8580 provides input support for HD/ ED/SD analog input signals, analog RGB formats from VGA to UXGA, as well as digital input formats such as 3G-SDI, DVI, and HDMI up to a maximum resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 or 1,600 x 1,200 pixels. As many as four streams of SD input data can be compressed in parallel. The encoded bit stream can be accessed via PCI Express, or output directly as Gigabit Ethernet RTP/UDP packets.

Oscillator Is GPS Driven
Model FTS is an oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) disciplined by Global Positioning System (GPS) timing signals. It employs a mixed-signal phase-locked loop (PLL) to achieve a 1 pulse per second (PPS) CMOS-level output while generating 10-MHz CMOS and sine-wave outputs. It can lock to a 10-MHz reference derived from the on-board GPS receiver, or to an external 10 MHz or 1 PPS reference. Alarms are provided to indicate Loss-of-Lock, Holdover, and Antenna Fault. The oscilator operates from a +3.3-VDC supply and measures 3.937 x 1.969 x 0.708" (100 x 50 x 17.98 mm).

Capacitors Meet DSCC 10011
A high-value wet tantalum capacitor line from Vishay Intertechnology has been approved to the new DSCC Drawing 10011. The new DSCC 10011 device features a capacitance to 72,000 F in the A, B, and C case codes. It features a glass-to-metal hermetic seal, operates over a temperature range of -55 to + 85C (to + 125C with voltage derating), and provides low maximum effective series resistance (ESR) values as low as 0.035 at 1 kHz. The device is available with capacitances from 1100 to 72,000 F over a voltage range of 25 V to 125 V, and capacitance tolerances of 20 percent. Housed in an all-tantalum, hermetically sealed case, and manufactured to withstand high stress and hazardous environments, the new capacitor provides a unique double seal for reliable performance in low-voltage filtering and energy storage applications for demanding military and aerospace systems including weapon systems, radars, transponders, and power supplies.

COTS Oscillators Meet MIL-STD-790
Lines of resonator crystals, temperature- compensated crystal oscillators (TCXOs), oven-controlled crystal oscillators (OCXOs), voltage-controlled crystal oscillators (VCXOs), and surface-acoustic- wave (SAW) oscillators from Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co., Ltd. A series of low-noise amplifiers (LNAs) has been developed by CTT for applications from 1 to 18 GHz. They have typical noise figures of less than 2.5 dB over an instantaneous bandwidth of more than four octaves (1 to 18 GHz). They are suitable for radar imaging, spread-spectrum radios, and other wideband applications. They feature precision input/output matching circuits and GaAs pHEMT devices. The LNAs are supplied in a drop-in package or with SMA connectors.

PLL Synthesizer Speeds To 4.4 GHz
Model ADF4150HV is a 4.4-GHz fractional-N or integer-N phase-lock-loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer designed for point-to-point radio and aerospace applications. It features a 6-to-30-V charge pump to drive high-tuning-voltage voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs). The PLL runs on +3 to +3.6 VDC power supplies and offers a programmable dual-modulus prescaler with ratios of 4/5 or 8/9. The device incorporates onchip frequency dividers allowing the VCO frequency to be divided by 2, 4, 8, or 16 to allow the user to generate RF output frequencies as low as 31.25 MHz. The ADF4150HV is supplied in a 32-LFCSP package at $2.49 per unit (10,000-unit qty).

Multipliers Produce Signals To 30 GHz
The MX series of frequency multipliers from EM Research provide frequency doubling of input signals from 5 to 15 GHz to create output frequencies from 10 to 30 GHz with 7 to 10 dB nominal conversion gain. Ideal for satellite communications (satcom) systems, the frequency multipliers provide between +7 and +10 dBm output power with 20 dB input/output isolation, better than -30 dBc harmonics, and better than -70 dBc spurious content. The multipliers measure 0.96 x 0.80 x 0.43 in. with coaxial input and output connectors and are powered by +5 to +12 VDC.
