15-GHz SMT VCO Delivers High Performance in Radar Apps
Z-Communications launched its DRO15000A voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), which produces an oscillation frequency of 15 GHz with low phase noise, stable power output, and high harmonic suppression in a compact surface-mount package. The device comes in an advanced SDRO surface-mount package for reliable operation in harsh conditions.
The device provides a tuning voltage range of 0 to 12 V DC and average tuning sensitivity of 2 MHz/V. It's optimized for exceptional phase-noise performance of –96 dBc/Hz typical at a 10-kHz offset with low harmonics of –30 dBc.
The DRO15000A spans an industrial operating temperature range of –40 to +85°C. It typically outputs +2 dBm into a 50-Ω load while maintaining highly efficient power consumption of 130 mW. It features low pulling of only 1 MHz (at 12-dB return loss, any phase) and a pushing of 1 MHz/V.
Operation is from a nominal 5-V DC supply voltage, drawing a typical supply current of just 26 mA. The entire module is RoHS compliant, meeting modern global environmental and production standards.
The DRO15000A, in production now and available for immediate evaluation, is recommended for new designs.

Executive Editor, Microwaves & RF
I am Executive Editor of Microwaves & RF, an all-digital publication that broadly covers all aspects of wireless communications. More particularly, we're keeping a close eye on technologies in the consumer-oriented 5G, 6G, IoT, M2M, and V2X markets, in which much of the wireless market's growth will occur in this decade and beyond. I work with a great team of editors to provide engineers, developers, and technical managers with interesting and useful articles and videos on a regular basis.
