Infinite Pays $110 MIllion For Microwave Suppliers Left at Smiths Interconnect

May 4, 2017
The brands that Infinite is buying include Kaelus, Polyphaser, Transtector Systems, and RadioWaves. The company is paying a little more than their total revenue last year.

Infinite Electronics, the holding company for Pasternack and Fairview Microwave, has acquired the microwave telecom unit of Smiths Interconnect for around $110 million, giving it a wide range of parts for cellular towers and core networks.

The unit includes the Kaelus, Polyphaser, Transtector Systems, and RadioWaves brands. These companies were left out of a recent restructuring at Smiths Interconnect, which moved nine suppliers of microwave connectors and other components under a single brand.

Smiths Interconnect is aiming to position itself as a “comprehensive solutions provider,” Roland Carter, the division’s president, recently told Microwaves & RF. The microwave telecom brands, which last year earned around $100 million in revenue and $4 million in profit, apparently did not fit with that strategy.

The suppliers fit into Infinite’s plans, though. “This acquisition extends Infinite Electronics existing presence in the global telecommunications marketplace by broadening the products, technologies and services Infinite can collectively offer," said Terry G. Jarnigan, Infinite’s chief executive, in a press statement.

David Quinn, the former vice president of components for Smiths Microwave, will lead Infinite’s wireless telecom unit, which includes the former Smiths' brands. Infinite will also look to sell their communications products in the defense, medical, and transportation markets.
