Quad IF DAC Races To 2.8 GSamples/s

June 2, 2014
A four-channel IF DAC is well suited for generating the clean multiple signals needed for modern communications systems.

Data converters are versatile signal-process components and will be among the most sought-after items on the 2014 IMS Exhibition floor. Recognizing this interest, Analog Devices is introducing at Booth No. 415 what the firm claims is the industry’s fastest quad intermediate-frequency (IF) digital-to-analog converter (DAC), the model AD9144. This four-channel, 16-b data converter operates at rates to 2.8 GSamples/s making it ideal for a host of wireless and wired communications applications. The DAC achieves a spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of -82 dBc with noise spectral density of -164 dBm/Hz. This level of performance supports low-noise synthesis of wideband signals for many different communications systems. For example, for Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) cellular communications systems, the AD9144 can generate a six-carrier IF bandwidth of 75 MHz with -77 dBc adjacent-channel leakage ratio (ACLR). The DAC is available in a 12 × 12 mm 88-lead lead-frame, chip-scale package (LFCSP) housing.
