COTS Gateway Manages Multiple Video Sensors

Sept. 19, 2019
This video gateway and multiplexer is designed to simplify the use of advanced ISR platforms with multiple video sensors.

Surveillance and monitoring applications can be overwhelmed by the many cameras and video sensors used to track an adversary. Fortunately, the latest video gateway from Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division provides the performance capabilities and ease of operation needed to manage multiple video sensors and video outputs and provide effect, real-time monitoring. The model RVC-MS1 video gateway and multiplexer is the latest member of the Rugged Video Gateway (RVG) family of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) video management solutions developed for high-performance intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems that can include difference types of visible and infrared (IR) cameras, thermal imaging subsystems,  and laser target designators.

The RVC-MS1 is optimized for applications requiring challenging size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements. It is designed for harsh military and aerospace environments and is qualified to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-1257E, and MIL-STD-461F standards.

The gateway/multiplexer provides a generous number of inputs (4 analog, 20 3G-SDI, and 1 HDMI) and an almost equal number of outputs (16 3G-SDI, 2 video analog, and 2 H.264) along with CANbus, RS-485, RS-422, and RS-232 control interfaces for operating flexibility with a large number of sensors and different control/monitoring systems. Despite the many inputs and outputs, a straightforward graphical user interface (GUI) makes the gateway easy to use even when monitoring multiple sensors with picture-in-picture (PiP) and video streaming capabilities. The unit can function as an Ethernet gateway for mobile and portable use in vehicle-based systems.

“Curtiss-Wright’s rugged COTS-based video management solutions are designed to increase warfighter effectiveness and help drive mission success,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice-president and general manager for defense and power. “Our newest RVG video management gateway, the RVG-MS1, is ideal for managing multiple advanced sensors, with low latency and maximum flexibility to optimize and ease the operator’s experience.”
