AMCOM Signs Rockwell to Maintain Chinook Fleet

Nov. 14, 2018
A new five-year contract provides maintenance and upgrades for AMCOM’s Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) on the CH-47F Chinook helicopter fleet.

The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) Logistics Center (ALC) signed a five-year contract with Rockwell Collins to upgrade and maintain the Common Avionics Architecture Systems (CAAS) on the Army’s CH-47F Chinook helicopter fleet. CAAS, which was adopted by the U.S. Army as the standard for the CH-47F cockpit avionics systems, provides flight crews with situational awareness data during missions. The system integrated multiple communications, navigation and mission subsystems through its flexible Flight 2  open systems architecture and is currently fielded on more than 500 aircraft worldwide.

“With this contract, we’re able to upgrade the first generation of CAAS hardware at substantial cost savings to the Army,” said Rod Hall, principal program manager, Rotary Wing Services for Rockwell Collins. “Additionally, by including repair capabilities for the latest configuration of CAAS hardware, we’re able to expand the breadth of support provided, which increases the functionality to end users.”
