3U VPX Board Brings FPGA Flexibility

Oct. 18, 2019
The 54841 VPX board from Pentek, built around the Kintex Ultrascale FPGA, includes two 500-MHz ADCs and two 800-MHz DACs.

The newest member to join Pentek’s Jade family of 3U VPX boards is the Model 54851. The new board is based around the Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA. In addition, it features two 500-MHz analog-to-digital converters and two 800-MHz DACs. The new board takes advantage of recent advances in the OpenVPX technology, enabling RF and optical connections to be made through the VPX backplane. It also gives the user the choice of FPGA they wish to have installed. Thus, for more demanding applications such as modulating, encoding, and encrypting, a higher-performing device can be chosen. On the other hand, when less digital signal processing is needed, one can employ a lower-cost device.
