SaviHas been selected by the US Department of Defense (DoD) to compete for future task orders under the radiofrequency- identification (RFID) III procurement contracting vehicle. Three other prime contractors also were selected to bid for task orders during the initial three-year ordering period that is scheduled to begin early this year. RFID III is an indefinite-delivery-indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract established by the US Army on behalf of all services with a total value of $428 million for active RFID hardware, software, and engineering services. The contract is administered by the US Army's Product Manager Joint-Automatic Identification Technology (PM J-AIT) office.

Technical CommunitiesHas announced an exclusive government services partnership agreement with LadyBug Technologies, manufacturer of the PowerSensor+ line of "no-cal, no-zero" Universal Serial Bus (USB) powermeasurement instruments. The agreement authorizes Technical Communities to provide government organizations with the PowerSensor+ line of miniaturized USB powermeter sensors. LadyBug Technologies' products are under General Services Administration Multiple Award Schedules managed by Technical Communities, which will provide content, transaction, marketing, sales support, and reporting services around them.

Harris Corp.Has been awarded an eight-month study contract by the US Air Force Research Laboratory, Sensors Directorate, Wright Patterson AFB, to develop a modular communications architecture for satellites that weigh less than 400 kg and can be deployed quickly and cost effectively. The study will support the Operationally Responsive Space Office (ORSO) at Kirtland Air Force Base, NM with systems engineering, requirements analysis, and concept development of an architecture whereby common components are able to support multiple payloads. The modular architecture will allow the rapid configuration of satellites to meet the changing needs of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.

Xceive Corp.Has announced that Mele selected Xceive's XC5000 hybrid silicon tuner for its new line of HMC- 3915T and HMC-S01BT personal video recorders (PVRs). Through advanced RF design techniques and an on-board proprietary digital signal processor, the XC5000 delivers analog demodulation and digital bandpass filtering with no external SAW filters.

Merrimac IndustriesHas been granted a patent for its Multi-Mix Microtechnology from the US Patent and Trademark Office entitled "Coupler Resource Module." Merrimac's proprietary process for constructing RF components and integrated modules on fluoropolymer composite substrates utilizes a unique method of manufacture, whereby both passive and active devices are incorporated into a homogeneous multilayer dielectric medium. The technology can be used for a range of components, such as amplifiers, frequency-control products, passive microwave components, and integrated subsystems.

Richardson Electronics Ltd.Has entered into an agreement with RADIALL to promote and distribute "Service +," an automated program for ordering, manufacturing, and delivering RF cable assemblies. RADIALL's Service + program includes the following: a quick-turn cable-assembly operation with dedicated resources; easy access to a broad range of standard connectors and cables; same-day quotation and associated technical datasheet; delivery in as fast as one week; standard electrical performance guaranteed in each cable assembly; and full quality control in an ISO 9001 facility.

Renaissance ElectronicsHas acquired Harmonix (HXI) Millimeter Co., a division of Proxim Wireless. As part of the transaction, Proxim and Renaissance entered into an agreement for the continued supply and support of the GigaLink radios developed and manufactured by Harmonix. The joint capabilities include COTS or customized solutions for the defense, space, medical, telecommunications, and aerospace markets.

TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc.Has announced that its North Carolina design center has moved into a new facility to accommodate its growing handset business. The North Carolina design center opened two years ago with one person and now hosts a team of RF engineers with a dozen patents and more than 300 years of collective experience in electrical engineering and technical support. The new facility is double the size of the first location.

Conexant Systems, Inc.Has signed an exclusive agreement with Analog Devices, Inc. to manufacture, distribute, and support ADI's PC audio-codec product line. ADI's PC audio engineering support team is now a part of Conexant's Imaging and PC Media group. It will be based in the company's facility in Waltham, MA. Endicott Interconnect Technologies, Inc. (EI)Has created EI Technologies UK Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of EI located in Chelmsford, UK.

Mirics SemiconductorHas secured $7 million of financing from its existing investor team of Acacia Capital Partners, Intel Capital, and Pond Venture Partners. The funding will enable Mirics to expand its commercial activities and accelerate further additions to its Mirics FlexiTV product line. Mirics FlexiTV, which was first announced in 2008, is a software-based solution for receiving global broadcast TV and radio on processor-based platforms, such as notebook computers and portable media players (PMPs).

Staccato CommunicationsHas announced that its Ripcord2 family of single-chip Ultra-Wideband (UWB) solutions has achieved Wireless USB certification from the USB-IF. Ensuring seamless interoperability with multiple vendors, this certification marks a production-readiness milestone for Ripcord2. In addition, Staccato has announced FCC regulatory certification for Ripcord2 in Band Groups 1, 3, and 6, thereby enabling a worldwide-compatible solution in a single design.
