Packaging specialist StratEdge has seen its packages fit into many tight places, but usually here on Earth. But one of its SE20 power amplifier packages is now playing a key role in transmitting information from the Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit and Opportunity back to Earth. The Mars Rovers were launched in June and July 2003 and landed on Mars in January of the following year. StratEdge's power amplifier packages are protecting the high-frequency GaAs MMIC power amplifiers used in the Rovers' X-band transmit circuitry. The low-loss, fully hermetic packages feature a copper composite base with outstanding thermal conductivity to draw heat away from the GaAs MMIC devices and ensure high amplifier reliability. For more information about these and other high-performance packages from StratEdge, visit the company's website at: http://www.stratedge.com/
