Northrop Grumman Corp.Has been awarded a contract to supply navigation and communications systems for nine 35-m patrol boats being built for the Iraqi navy. The $19-million firm, fixed-price contract was awarded to Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit by Swiftships Shipbuilders LLC of Morgan City, LA. Work will be performed by Northrop Grumman's Ocean Springs, MS facility. Each of the vessels will be fitted with an integrated bridge system (IBS) based on Sperry Marine's new-generation VisionMaster FT navigation technology. The IBS will include navigation radars and electronic chart display and information systems running on TotalWatch multi-function workstations.

RF Micro DevicesHas been awarded $3.2 million in R&D contracts by the US Department of Defense (DoD) related to gallium-nitride (GaN) microelectronics including materials, device fabrication, and high-power circuits. The contracts extend RFMD's contract backlog for calendar 2010 to approximately $5 million. Since calendar 2004, RFMD has been awarded approximately $13 million in R&D contracts by the US government.

ViaSat, Inc.Has been awarded a limited-production order valued at $14.4 million for Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS) terminals for the US government. The award resulted from a competitive procurement for 41 terminals through the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). ViaSat was awarded 100 percent of the terminals in the procurement. The MIDS JTRS terminals are for F/A-18E/F and E-8C Joint STARS aircraft and spares. The terminal has successfully completed security verification testing and is in the final stages of obtaining NSA certification. ViaSat expects to receive conditional first-article approval this month.

Herley Industries, Inc.Has announced that its Herley-CTI subsidiary located in Whippany, NJ has received an award worth approximately $1.1 million for its DS wideband direct-synthesizer product. This low-noise, fast-switching signal source is used in the test community for antenna measurements and communications, radar, and electronicwarfare (EW) system evaluation. The synthesizers ordered under this contract will be used in US Navy radar and EW environment simulators.

Harris StratexHarris Stratex Networks, Inc. has changed its name to Aviat Networks, Inc. The company's ticker symbol will change to AVNW and its common stock will continue to trade on NASDAQ. The new brand represents a culmination of the company's transformation over the last three years from a specialized microwave-backhaul equipment supplier to a provider of IP wireless-network solutions with a portfolio of migration solutions and life cycle services.

ARC TechnologiesHas expanded its manufacturing capacity by acquiring a 50,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility adjacent to its existing operation in Amesbury, MA. The facility, which includes new equipment for thermoplastic extrusion and injection-molding manufacturing operations, will also house a renovated sales office. The company's growth in the commercial and military-electronics industries prompted this expansion of its manufacturing capability. ARC's operations now total 150,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing, operations, sales, and warehousing space.

Wurth ElectronicsHas announced that the majority of its connector range has been certified to bear the UL mark by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. Connectors, such as pin headers, box headers, ZIF connectors, terminal blocks, USBs, RJ45s, and D Subs, now appear as UL-listed components.

Electro Technik Industries, Inc.Has acquired Arizona Capacitors and its subsidiariesWest Cap of Arizona, SFE Technologies, and Component Research Co. Arizona Capacitors and West Cap manufacture film capacitors for the industrial and military markets. Arizona Capacitors builds to MIL-STD- 790 and its capacitors are ISO 9001:2000 approved. It also designs and manufactures a family of electronic filters. This addition will put a fourth product line under the Electro Technik Industries (ETI) umbrella.

California Eastern Laboratories (CEL)Has announced the addition of a new international sales representative firm, Castle Microwave, covering the United Kingdom. Castle will join CEL in marketing CEL's MeshConnect line of IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee modules and ICs as well as modules based on Freescale, Texas Instruments, and Ember technologies. Comtech Xicom Technology, Inc.Has announced that its new, expanded web site is up and running at www.xicomtech.com. Xicom offers an extensive line of high-power amplifiers for satellite communications.

Energy MicroHas begun development of a companion range of low-power RF transceiver products. In line with its microcontroller design philosophy, Energy Micro is aiming to produce RF devices consuming a quarter of the energy of existing leading-edge products. A complete family of Energy Micro RF products is planned for launch in 2011. It will cover multiple frequency bands and support both standard and proprietary wireless protocols.

Harris Corp.Has acquired the technology assets of OSI Geospatial, Inc.'s land-based situational-awareness business. That technology will enhance the company's ability to deliver assured communications systems and applications for defense and public-safety customers. With this acquisition, Harris gains advanced software for capturing, viewing, and disseminating critical strategic and tactical information to domestic and international defense and public-safety customers.
