System Tackles THz Material Testing

June 10, 2014
A test system is designed for characterizing electronic, magnetic, and chemical materials into the THz frequency range.

Last week’s visitors to the 2014 IMS Exhibition in Tampa, FL may have been somewhat surprised by how high some of the latest microwave designs are reaching. At their booth, for example, Lake Shore Cryogenics showed its 8500 Series terahertz test system for characterizing electronic, magnetic, and chemical materials for use at terahertz frequencies.

The 8500 Series system can evaluate key material properties, such as dielectric constant and conductivity. It uses THz-frequency energy and an integrated high-field cryostat functionality to handle a wide range of frequencies, temperatures, and field strengths, providing a measurement range from 0.1 to 10 THz.
