Time is money in wireless production testing. Every second of test time adds to the cost of a cellular telephone. To save time and money, the E6601A wireless test set is as much as 30 percent faster than other wireless production test sets and includes an integrated personal-computer (PC) core running an open Microsoft Windows XP operating system. It is aimed at calibrating mobile handsets in manufacturing environments.
The E6601A integrates a low-noise signal source, signal analyzer, technology-specific software, and the embedded Windows XP into a single product with a large display screen (see figure). Based on a new architecture which utilizes a wide 25-MHz measurement bandwidth and high dynamic range to provide fast single sample multiple measurement suites, measurements are controlled by a combination of dedicated buttons and software menus. In addition, the integrated personal computer offers a host of interfaces for remote control and networking, including a 100 based-T local-area network (LAN) port, GPIB and four universal-serial-port (USB) version 2.0 ports.
The instrument's Open Windows XP environment allows control and test programs to be developed, downloaded, and executed directly in the instrument, without using an external computer. The architecture has been optimized for speed and accuracy to ensure that cellular-telephone calibration measurements are performed repeatably and reliably. The E6601A features new calibration applications for GSM/GPRS/EGPRS,
WCDMA, and HSDPA. In addition, Fast Device Tune measurement capability can also be added to speed mobile-phone calibration. Operators have the flexibility to add as little or as much measurement capability as they need through flexible licensing options. P&A: $27,100 (E6601A), $6000 (GSM/GPRS Calibration Application), and $6000 (WCDMA Calibration Application); stock.
