Vencore Labs To Enhance Tactical Coms for DARPA

Feb. 6, 2017
DARPA has selected Vencore Labs of Vencore, Inc. to improve tactical communications technologies in the presence of hostile jammers.

Vencore Labs, the research arm of Vencore, Inc. has been awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for enhanced communications among a wide range of airborne systems and networks. The 17-month contract, with DARPA’s Dynamic Network Adaptation for Mission Optimization (DyNAMO) program, has a value of more than $2.5 million with all options exercised.

The DyNAMO program seeks to enhance the performance and quality of tactical communications, at the same time increasing the capabilities of military communications systems to maintain performance in the presence of jammers. As part of the contract, Vencore Labs will attempt to optimize communications network and radio functionality in hostile operating environments. The research team will attempt to develop adaptable networks and systems that are stable and scalable as needed.

“Having the opportunity to play a leading role in enabling our country to conduct operations against adversaries, while configuring our most critical assets in advance of a mission, is a real honor,” said Dr. Petros Mouchtaris, president of Vencore Labs. “We look forward to expanding our partnership with DARPA on the DyNAMO program.”

Part of Vencore Labs’ approach will involve the development of a framework capable of dynamically selecting connection points between different waveforms, then adaptively shifting the communications links between those waveforms as needed.
