Manpack HF Radios Receive NSA Certification

May 9, 2017
A portable HF radio has been certified by the NSA as totally secure for communications of voice, video, and data.

Radio communications security is always a consideration in tactical environments, given the sensitivity of the information at hand. To alleviate those concerns, portable radios can be designed with encryption and advanced modulation formats to prevent interception of data in the battlefield. To signify the effectiveness of these approaches in achieving radio communications security, Harris Corp. recently received certification from the National Security Agency (NSA) for its RF-300H wideband high-frequency manpack radio system (see photo).

The Type-1 NSA certification confirms that this is essentially the world’s highest-performance HF manpack radio. It can provide high-level secure transmission of voice, images, maps, and data as part of beyond-line-of-sight communications from radio to radio, as an alternative to the use of satellite communications (satcom) systems. “This RF-300H NSA certification allows us to continue providing leading-edge secure communications technology to the warfighter who needs to be prepared for any situation,” said Chris Young, president of Harris Communications Systems.
