Solution Provides Security for Avionics IoT Devices

A combination of two software products adds to secure IoT communications for commercial and military avionics applications.

Internet of Things (IoT) technology is spreading rapidly, although with considerable concern regarding the security of data for military and government applications. Data security usually means encryption, and that is part of a secure IoT solution developed by DDC-I, Inc. and Mocana Corp. for commercial and military avionics systems (see photo). The integrated commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software-based platform bolsters the security of IoT devices used for avionics applications, including in military and aerospace systems.

The solution teams DDC-I’s Deos embedded real-time operating system (RTOS) with Mocana’s IoT Security Platform. Deos is certifiable to DO-178 Design Assurance Level A (DAL A) for avionics and safety-critical applications, while Mocana has a track record of providing mission-critical IoT software security solutions that improve the security of embedded systems. The new integrated IoT platform includes advanced security features to protect data during and following communications from IoT devices to cloud computer servers, including in the form of device authentication, encryption, and device-to-cloud communications.
