Harris Corporation (Research Triangle, NC) announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with Broadcast Services Australia Limited Transmission Services (BSA TS) under which BSA TS will distribute Harris Microwave Communications Division's (MCD) radio products for point-to-point wireless communications throughout Australia, as well as provide implementation and management services. Included in this agreement is Harris' next-generation microwave radio, TRuepoint(TM), a universal platform for point-to-point digital communications in the cellular backhaul market. The TRuepoint system can seamlessly switch between PDH and SDH applications and can deliver service from 4 to 180 Mb/s at frequencies from 6 to 38 GHz. Together, BSA TS and Harris MCD will offer service providers in Australia with a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless infrastructure including installation and ongoing support.

According to Darryl Parker, vice president of international sales and services for Harris MCD, "with the anticipated growth in 3G services and a geography featuring many remote locations with little infrastructure, Australia represents immense potential for wireless infrastructure." John Chellingworth, group general manager of BSA-TS added, "given Australia's legislative commitment to building out the nation's wireless infrastructure, this partnership represents the perfect solution for the demands of Australia's service providers."
