Amsterdam Hosts 250 Companies at European Microwave Week 2008
European Microwave Week (EuMW) 2008 attracts more than 250 companies specializing in RF, microwave, radar, and wireless technologies. This year, those companies congregated at the RAI Exhibition and Conference Centre in the Dutch city of Amsterdam. Microwaves & RF magazine was there to report on the hot products and technology on show. In addition, European Editor Paul Whytock video-interviewed a selection of companies at the event. Those videos can be viewed by clicking on the links below.
In addition to the exhibition, there were four conferences at EuMW: the European Microwave Conference (EuMC), the European Wireless Technology Conference (EuWiT), the European Radar Conference (EuRAD), and the European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC). All of this technology came to a city that is probably better known for its canals (Amsterdam is sometimes referred to as the Venice of Northern Europe), windmills, and tulips. Founded in 1270, Amsterdam has gained a reputation for social tolerance, the arts, a very lively cafe and pub society, and fascinating architecture with its canal-side, narrow fronted gabled houses (see figure). Supposedly, the Dutch houses are so narrow and tall because the local government decided to tax house owners on the width of their houses. The astute Dutch decided that the way around that tax was to build very narrow yet tall and deep homes.
Without question, European Microwave Week is the largest event of its kind in Europe. This year's setting certainly added some interest to an already exciting event. With these videos, Microwaves & RF brings an up-close and personal view of some of the show highlights. We hope you enjoy it.
