BAE to Send Additional Typhoons to Qatar Emiri

BAE Systems has been contracted by the Government of the State of Qatar to supply additional Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to the Qatar Emiri Air Force.

BAE Systems has been contracted by the Government of the State of Qatar to supply additional Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to the Qatar Emiri Air Force, as part of a full support and training package worth about ₤5 billion. The contract, which provides for 24 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, is reliant upon fulfillment of first payment no later than mid-2018. Delivery of the aircraft is expected to commence in late 2022.

BAE Systems is the prime contractor and the main supplier of in-service support and training for the aircraft. “We are delighted to begin a new chapter in the development of a long-term relationship with the State of Qatar and the Qatar Armed Forces, and we look forward to working alongside our customer as they continue to develop their military capability,” said Charles Woodburn, the company’s chief executive.

The Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft (see figure) is an advanced twin-engine combat aircraft produced by BAE Systems and partner companies. It provides simultaneous air-to-air and air-to-surface defensive capabilities. The Eurofighter Typhon aircraft, which are currently in service with six customers across 20 operational units, equips air forces with the capability to deliver a wide range of air-based operations, from peace support and policing functions through high-intensity conflicts, due to its flexibility and adaptability. The durability aircraft has completed over 400,000 flying hours as part of the Eurofighter Typhoon fleet.
