To provide an alternative to highend microwave signal generators, the APSIN20G covers 10 MHz to 20 GHz in a box that measures just 172 x 220 x 106 mm and weighs 6 lbs. This signal generator provides output power to +30 dBm. In addition, it switches frequencies in 200 s. To ensure minimal drift, the APSIN20G features an ultrastable, temperature- compensated, 100-MHz reference (OCXO). Yet it can be phase-locked to almost any stable external reference from 1 to 200 MHz. The lower-frequency limit can optionally be expanded to 100 kHz. There is even a provision for attaching a Universal Serial Bus (USB) power sensor.

The signal generator allows the testing of a wide range of receivers, thanks to the following: amplitude modulation (AM); low-distortion, wideband direct-current frequency modulation (DCFM); and high-speed pulse modulation. The unit provides fast analog and digital sweeps including flexible list sweeps, where frequency, power, and dwell times can be set individually. In addition, a flexible triggering capability simplifies synchronization within test environments. The APSIN20G's trigger and sweeping modes can be controlled via standard interfaces, such as USB-TMC, LAN, and GPIB. They also can operate from an optional internal rechargeable battery. The APSIN20G includes AM, DC-coupled wideband-FM, PM, FSK and PSK, frequency chirp, and pulse modulation as standard. These modulation modes also can be combined. Made in Switzerland by AnaPico AG, the APSIN20G is available from $14,600 from its distributor, Saelig Co., Inc.
